This figure is a 30" Eegee "Groucho
Marx", made by Goldberger Doll Mfg., Inc., that has been
converted into a semi-pro figure and upgraded.
The molded hair that it came with has been retouched to cover
worn spots and the hairline corrected to match the molded areas.
It originally came with cheesy plastic glasses that had too
thick of frames for the character. I looked at some pictures of
Groucho from the 1930's and found some glasses that match what
he wore. The new wireframe glasses have metal frames and flat
lenses. These new glasses do not need a rubber band to hold them
onto the head.
The original shoes had resembled what you would find on an
infant girl doll. These have been upgraded to lace-up black
dress shoes that are an appropriate size for the figure.
The original rubber band (which was broken) has been replaced
with a spring for much greater durability.
The figure now has a hollow body and a control stick with a
lever to operate the mouth. The head turns easily and the mouth
operates the same as a professional model figure.
There is no carrying case for this figure. You supply the cigar.
Outside of one more figure (a Juro "Charlie McCarthy"), I do not
plan to be converting too many other toy ventriloquist figures.I
will be moving on to completely original figures. So now is your
chance to buy a figure that has been not only converted for
actual performances but actually is true to the appearance of
Groucho Marx.
