From the Desk of Bill Nelson:

I have been a teacher for many years. I began teaching third year illustration at the university I graduated from. Next came the lecture circuit as my reputation as an Illustrator spread. I lectured and taught workshops from Chicago to Anaheim for many years.

Then I was voted into a prestigious doll organization called the National Institute of American Doll Artists. Once a member, I was asked to both lecture and teach workshops all over the USA during their yearly conventions.

Finally tired of living out of a suitcase, I decide to start teaching workshops in my home. Then I stumbled onto an online teaching site called "That Creative Place."

I approached the owner/originator of the site about teaching aspects of sculpting and (for lack of a better word), doll making. My timing was perfect because she had just begun to think about searching for someone to teach exactly what I had to offer. Once she saw my website she told me that anything I wanted to teach was just fine with her.

To date I have written and documented courses in the following:
  • Sculpting the Character Head

  • Sculpting Hands

  • Painting and Tinting

  • Building Torsos and Limbs

I am currently writing the last in this curriculum, Sculpting Fabric and Hair.

I have agreed to create courses in:

  • Drawing in Colored Pencil

  • Drawing in Pen and Ink

Not trying to brag, but I have been told by many of my students that I am a good teacher and make learning very enjoyable. My teacher, world famous sculptor/teacher Robert McKinley, encouraged me to “Pass it Forward”. He passed away in 1994 but left me with a love of teaching and this beautiful quote:

“A teacher is like a candle…it consumes itself to light the way for others.”

The entire group of courses will repeat four times a year and the cost is $250 per course.
